Testnet4 (BIP-94) replaced the original testnet in 2024 after that chain's difficulty-reset rule let a single miner produce thousands of blocks in minutes and its coins started being traded. Testnet4 keeps proof-of-work mining, so it is closer to mainnet than signet, but fixes the exploit and reset the coin supply.
An Electrum server on testnet4 lets wallets and test suites that expect a mined chain run against one. Our node also serves a faucet and an explorer on the same chain.
What people use it for
- Wallet and library test suites that want proof-of-work behaviour (variable block times, real difficulty adjustments).
- Trying a wallet's testnet mode; most wallets released since 2025 mean testnet4 when they say testnet.
- Integration tests for services that watch confirmations and reorganisations.
How we run it
Same TLS edge as our other Electrum hosts (SNI-routed). Sparrow: Server → Electrum → testnet4-electrum.mineracks.com:50002. Coin from the testnet4 faucet below.
Notes
testnet3 is deliberately not offered: it is deprecated upstream and its coin is traded, which defeats the purpose of a test network.
