Signet is Bitcoin's stable test network (BIP-325). Blocks are signed by a known key instead of mined by proof of work, so the chain cannot be reorganised or spammed by whoever has the most hashpower, which made the old testnet unreliable. Coins have no value and are handed out by faucets.
This is an Electrum server on that chain, so a wallet can be pointed at it exactly as it would be at mainnet, and every mistake costs nothing.
What people use it for
- Learning a new wallet, multisig setup or hardware signer before touching real funds.
- Testing software that speaks Electrum, with a chain that behaves like mainnet (10-minute blocks, real fees).
- Demonstrations and training where a real chain is wanted but real money is not.
How we run it
Fulcrum on our signet node. Point Sparrow or BDK at it to develop against a chain with no value.
